Russian Silver Stopka / Charka, Moscow, Russia, 1757, 18th Century.

A fine Russian silver stopka, or charka, made in Moscow in 1757. The vessel is of tapering cylindrical form and is richly decorated with chased and engraved rocaille ornament.

The body is decorated with cartouches enclosing allegorical and heraldic-style motifs, including a lion and a bird among floral scrollwork. The interior is gilt, as is typical for fine Russian drinking vessels of this period.
