Description

Antique Russian Gardner Porcelain Cup and Saucer, Imperial Period, Late 19th Century.

A classic and elegant porcelain cabinet cup and saucer from the Gardner Factory in Verbilki, Russia’s first private porcelain manufactory. The set features a refined neoclassical design typical of the late Imperial period.

The decoration consists of a rich burgundy-red, or maroon, band with a continuous gilded Greek key, or meander, pattern. Below the band is a delicate lace-like gold filigree border. The cup has a slightly waisted form, a refined scroll handle and gold-rimmed edges.

The underside of both pieces bears a red Gardner factory mark with the Imperial Double-Headed Eagle and St. George the Victorious.
