Description

An impressive large French patinated bronze sculpture entitled Le Lancer by Eugène Marioton (1854–1933), dating to approximately 1900.

The sculpture depicts a young falconer in traditional hunting costume, holding his raised arm as a falcon spreads its wings in preparation for flight. In his other hand he holds a coiled cord, while a long rifle is slung across his back and additional weapons are attached to his belt.

The standing figure is modelled with remarkable attention to anatomical detail, facial expression, clothing and hunting equipment. The dynamic composition captures the moment of releasing the bird, creating a strong sense of movement.

The sculpture is finished in a rich reddish-brown patina, highlighting the carefully modelled details. It stands on a naturalistic circular base with the title LE LANCER on the front and the sculptor’s signature Eug. Marioton on the side.
