Description

A Russian silver large jam spoon or preserve spoon, dating from the 19th century.

The spoon has a rounded bowl, a long faceted handle and a shaped terminal. The bowl is finely engraved with floral sprays and foliage, giving the object an elegant decorative appearance. The handle is worked with faceted sections and ring mouldings, typical of refined Russian silver tableware of the period.

The form and size suggest use as a large jam or preserve spoon, suitable for serving jam, preserves, berries in syrup or other sweet table accompaniments.

The handle bears several hallmarks, including the Russian 84 zolotnik silver standard and maker’s marks. The 84 zolotnik standard corresponds to high-grade Russian silver, approximately 875/1000. The maker’s mark and assay mark are visible but should be confirmed by direct hallmark reference, as they are not fully legible from the photograph.
