Description

Pair of Porcelain Plates with Portraits of Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra.

A decorative pair of porcelain plates with printed polychrome portraits of Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, shown in formal Imperial coronation dress. The plates have a rich green border with gilt ornamental decoration and classical gilt banding.

One plate depicts Nicholas II wearing Imperial regalia, holding a sceptre and crown. The second plate depicts Empress Alexandra Feodorovna in court dress, with crown, jewels and ermine-trimmed mantle. The portraits are placed within plain white reserves, surrounded by a green and gilt decorative rim.

The reverse of each plate bears a green crowned monogram mark with the date 1898. The plates are described as later period production and should not be presented as Imperial-period originals unless further specialist confirmation is obtained.
