The substantial asymmetrical blade features a sweeping cutting edge and a pronounced arched opening between the blade and its socket. Both faces are embellished with deeply engraved interlacing scrolls and stylised vegetal motifs, creating a dense and highly decorative surface.

The hollow socket is particularly attractive, displaying pronounced spiral fluting combined with finer engraved scrolling patterns. Its circular opening was intended to accommodate a separate wooden shaft, which is no longer present.

The design recalls the decorative traditions of Ottoman and Balkan axes, including examples produced for display, presentation and prestigious ownership. The present piece may date from the 19th or early 20th century; however, its precise geographical origin and date of manufacture have not been established.

The unusually elaborate ornament, distinctive openwork silhouette and substantial weight make this an interesting example for a collection of historic edged weapons, decorative arms and metalwork.
