A small genre painting on wood panel, depicting a humorous monastic dining scene with four monks gathered around a table with food and drink. The composition follows the well-known type associated with Eduard von Grützner, the German painter famous for lively and humorous scenes of monks, taverns and monastic interiors.

The painting shows three seated monks and a standing figure pouring drink from ceramic jugs. The scene is executed in a warm brown palette, with expressive faces, detailed clothing and a dark interior background. The subject reflects the popular late 19th-century taste for humorous monastic genre scenes.

The reverse bears handwritten inscriptions referring to “Kapuziner Mönche” and Eduard von Grützner in Munich. This supports the attribution as a work after Grützner rather than an original work by the artist. The painting is presented in a richly ornamented gilt frame.
